Where will we snorkel?
We explore the coast from Zacatitos toward Palmilla and the Cabo Corridor, choosing the route around the day’s ocean conditions. Your guide selects suitable reef areas rather than following a fixed list of stops regardless of wind, swell or visibility.
Expect a guided look at colorful reef fish and underwater habitats. Sea turtles or rays may appear, but wildlife encounters are never guaranteed. We seek quieter reef areas and adapt the stops to conditions on the day.
Prefer to compare beaches before deciding on a boat trip? Our snorkeling beaches guide covers the separate shore-snorkeling questions. This local tour is also a different experience from our Cabo Pulmo snorkeling day trip.
Snorkeling through the seasons
Local snorkeling runs year-round, with changing water temperature and visibility. The warmer months generally offer warmer water, while wetsuits help with comfort when the water is cooler. Ask us what conditions look like for your travel dates.
During the December-to-April whale season, whales may be spotted from the boat between reef visits. A reef snorkeling booking does not include a guaranteed whale encounter or swimming with whales.
Plan around the conditions
Choose an AM or PM tour to fit your day. Ask the team which available departure looks most suitable for your visit, taking the forecast and your group’s needs into account.
If you are staying several days, consider contacting us early in your visit to discuss available dates and the forecast. Confirm any weather-related changes and the applicable booking terms with us before relying on a different date.
Sea turtles and colorful reef life
A reef snorkeling trip is a chance to observe marine life in its natural setting. Your guide helps you notice fish and other animals while adapting the route to conditions. Sea turtles may appear, but they are a possible wildlife encounter rather than a guaranteed attraction.
What might we see?
Watch for sea turtles feeding or cruising around the reef, along with fish such as parrotfish, angelfish, butterflyfish and pufferfish. Rays may also pass through. Every outing is different, and no individual species or sighting is promised.
Palmilla and other suitable local reef areas may form part of the route. Your guide chooses the stops for the day rather than following a fixed turtle-sighting itinerary.
How do we watch turtles respectfully?
Follow your guide’s instructions and give turtles and other wildlife space. Observe without touching, feeding, chasing or trying to hold an animal. Avoid standing on or touching coral.
Let the animals continue their natural behavior. Enjoy the encounter from a respectful distance rather than trying to arrange a close-up photograph.
Does this trip include surf or freediving lessons?
This package is a guided reef snorkeling outing. Surf lessons, surfboard rentals, freediving courses and certification training are not included.
You do not need a freediving certificate to book snorkeling. Tell us about your swimming confidence and experience before booking so we can discuss a suitable arrangement.

First time snorkeling? Tell your guide about your experience and comfort in the water. The team explains the equipment and supports you during the guided outing. Flotation aids provide support, but swimming confidence and the day’s conditions still matter when choosing a suitable trip.
Families are welcome to discuss the trip with us. Share the children’s ages, swimming experience and any sizing or access needs before booking so we can confirm the most appropriate arrangement.
Bring a towel, sun protection, sunglasses, a hat and a light layer for the boat ride. Complimentary GoPro photos and videos are already included in the local tour highlights, so you can enjoy the reef without needing to carry your own camera.
Start at our Marina Puerto Los Cabos office
Meet the team at the Salty Cabo office in the La Playita area of San Jose del Cabo. The shaded guest area, restrooms and freshwater shower facilities give you a place to prepare before the trip and freshen up afterward. Gear fitting and the waiver come before the short walk to the boat and safety briefing.
Your local snorkeling trip departs from Marina Puerto Los Cabos, not the Cabo San Lucas marina. Use your confirmation for the meeting time and allow time for check-in. Arrange your journey to the office; do not assume a resort shuttle or hotel pickup is included. Guests staying in Cabo San Lucas should plan their own transport.
Snorkeling near JW Marriott Los Cabos
Staying at JW Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort? Ask us for the route to the Salty Cabo office and confirm suitable transport with your hotel. Meet at our marina check-in point rather than waiting at the resort or heading directly to a boat.
Snorkeling near Cabo Azul Resort
From Cabo Azul Resort, arrange a taxi or your own transport to Marina Puerto Los Cabos. Send us your hotel name if you need directions, and plan around the confirmed check-in time rather than the tour’s departure time.
Snorkeling near Secrets Puerto Los Cabos
From Secrets Puerto Los Cabos, confirm the route and the best transport option with us or your hotel. Walking access and journey times depend on the route and your group’s needs. Your booking confirmation identifies the correct Salty Cabo meeting point.

Questions before your snorkeling tour
How long is the local snorkeling trip?
The shared and private Super Salty trips are 3-hour outings, including the boat ride and reef visits. This is not a promise of three continuous hours in the water. Arrive at the office at the meeting time in your confirmation for check-in and gear preparation. The separate luxury yacht option is also listed as a 3-hour experience.
Is snorkeling available all year?
Yes, local snorkeling is offered year-round, subject to suitable conditions and availability. Water temperature, visibility, wind and swell change through the seasons and from day to day. Ask the team about your dates rather than relying on a guarantee of clear water or calm seas.
Do I need to bring snorkeling equipment?
Masks, snorkels, fins and wetsuits are provided. The team helps with fit, and life vests and flotation noodles are available. Let us know about children or any particular sizing needs before your visit. Bring your own towel and sun protection.
Can beginners and children join?
Beginners and families can discuss the trip with us before booking. Tell us about swimming confidence, the children’s ages, equipment needs and any difficulty walking to or boarding a boat. The guide provides support, but suitability depends on the guest and conditions. See the booking section for child prices.
Can I book a private snorkeling tour?
Yes. Choose a shared or private Super Salty trip, with capacity up to 12 guests. The 55ft Sunseeker is a separate private yacht option for up to 10 guests. Check the package you select for its price and inclusions.
Where do we meet if we are staying at a nearby hotel?
Meet at the Salty Cabo office at Marina Puerto Los Cabos in San Jose del Cabo. The hotel guidance above covers JW Marriott, Cabo Azul and Secrets. Confirm your route and transport in advance; hotel pickup is not listed among the local tour inclusions. We do not depart from the Cabo San Lucas marina.
Are refreshments, photos and videos included?
The local tour highlights include water, sodas, energy bars and cookies, plus complimentary GoPro photos and videos. The boat has cushioned seating and shade. The luxury yacht package lists its own drinks, light snacks and photo inclusions; use the relevant section above when choosing.
Which reefs will we visit, and will we see turtles?
The route follows suitable reef areas along the coast from Zacatitos toward Palmilla and the Corridor, according to conditions. Reef fish are part of the underwater environment, and turtles or rays may appear. Particular sites, a fixed number of stops and individual wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.
What facilities are available before and after the trip?
Our marina base has a shaded guest area, restrooms and freshwater shower facilities. Meet the team there for check-in, equipment fitting and the waiver before walking to the boat. Ask for directions if you are unsure of the office location.
Is this the same tour as Cabo Pulmo or whale shark snorkeling?
No. This page books local San Jose del Cabo reef snorkeling. Cabo Pulmo snorkeling, La Paz whale shark snorkeling and sea lion snorkeling are separate trips with their own travel arrangements, seasons, requirements and bookings. They are not automatic inclusions in a local reef tour.
